Coming Soon: Easy access to Derry Airport
August 20, 2008
Plans approved for £46m dual carriageway to Derry Airport.
It was announced today that Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy has given the go ahead for an improved road to the airport following an inspector’s report on the A2 Broadbridge scheme.
Planning for the new 6.6km dual carriageway is already underway and the project is expected to start early next year.
The Minister said: “I welcome the benefits to road users with the provision of a new all purpose dual carriageway.
“This will help to accommodate increasing traffic flows, resulting in reduced journey times and making the road a safer and more attractive route for east/west traffic on the A2.
“This improvement will in turn contribute towards the continued economic development of the north and efforts to improve road safety.”
The new dual carriageway will come as a welcome relief to the visitors to the airport and also provide better access to Maydown and Campsie industrial parks.
